The V6 is the only engine offered with a manual. The 2.0L Turbo is available on every trim and makes more torque, which is what you notice on a trail or merging onto Route 32. Best-in-Class towing of 5,000 pounds applies to four-door Rubicons properly equipped. [2]
What Makes a Wrangler a Wrangler
Every 2026 Wrangler wears the Trail Rated® badge, which means solid front and rear axles, steel skid plates and tow hooks as standard rather than optional.
Rubicon adds the hardware that matters off pavement: Rock-Trac® 4x4 with a 4:1 low gear ratio, front and rear Tru-Lok® electronic locking differentials, an electronic sway bar disconnect and rock rails. With the manual and the available 4.88:1 axle, that is a Best-in-Class 100:1 crawl ratio. [2] Other trims use Command-Trac® part-time 4x4 with a 2.72:1 low range, which includes a neutral position for flat-towing behind an RV.
Also available: 35-inch tires, a factory WARN® winch rated at 8,000 pounds and a steel front bumper. Jeep mounts the front radar sensors above the rearview mirror rather than in the bumper, so a steel bumper does not cost you adaptive cruise control.

Doors first. Four if anyone rides in back or you carry gear. Two if it is a weekend vehicle and you want the shorter one.
Then be honest about the trail. Buying the look and the open air? Sport S or Sahara covers it and you will not miss the lockers. Real terrain a few times a year? Willys, which saves $5,495 over a four-door Rubicon. Rock crawling? Rubicon, because the sway bar disconnect and front locker cannot be added later for anything close to factory cost. On a two-door, where the gap is only $2,655, take the Rubicon.
Then the engine. Want a manual? That is the V6. Want more torque and do not care about shifting? The 2.0L Turbo, available on every trim.

Not many places in Maryland, which is the honest answer. The state has very little legal off-highway vehicle land, and Patapsco Valley State Park along Howard County's eastern edge is for hiking and mountain biking rather than vehicles. Most local Wrangler owners drive north into Pennsylvania, where Rausch Creek Off-Road Park near Pine Grove and the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area near Shamokin are the two the Maryland Jeep community uses most. Both are a couple of hours from Howard County and both have graded trails from beginner to serious. Ask us and we can point you at the local clubs that run trips.
For most Maryland driving, no. Fire roads, gravel lanes out toward Glenelg and Woodbine, a muddy field or a snowy morning are all well within what a Sport S or Willys handles. Rubicon earns its price on rocks and steep obstacles, which around here means a trip to Rausch Creek or somewhere similar rather than anything in Howard County. Buy the Rubicon if you plan to make those trips, not because it looks like you might.
Willys borrows Rubicon parts including rock rails and a limited-slip rear differential and costs less, though how much less depends on body style: $5,495 on a four-door and only $2,655 on a two-door. Rubicon adds the hardware Willys does not have: the Rock-Trac 4x4 system with a 4:1 low range, front and rear Tru-Lok electronic locking differentials and an electronic sway bar disconnect. If you rock crawl, that gap matters. If you are on fire roads and gravel, Willys usually covers it.

For a Howard County winter, where the ice tends to arrive on a weekday morning and the side streets around Glenelg and Highland get cleared late, that combination is more capability than most drivers here will ever need.
